WHEN WAS THIS HEADSHOT TAKEN? THE ANSWER MAY SURPRISE YOU!

Another example of a business headshot that will never be dated. Was it taken 25 years ago or yesterday in my studio?

To some degree, choice of clothing, hairstyles, and make-up trends may indicate when this was created. With fashion, fads are cyclical and trends MUST change continuously in order to keep consumers interested in and invested in their appearance.

However, the classic white canvas has been, is still, and will continue to be a great choice in backgrounds. It is easy to create an image with impact by using strong contrast and eye-catching colors. So the go-to choice for many is the classic white background.

This image was created in my studio on June 3, 2024. It will stand the test of time. Our goal at Whispering Sand Photography is to help you look your best and create images that promote your message for many years to come.

TRENDING…THE EVER-CLASSIC WHITE BACKGROUND IS COMING ON STRONG!

I am noticing a trend that most of my headshot clients are wanting the timeless white background. They usually order a couple of images, including a different background an outfit change, for various marketing needs. But there seems to be a white background in each order. Why? Let’s take a look why businesses ask for this look most of all.

White backgrounds have always projected a dynamic, polished and professional look. This type of headshot is classic and will always be in style. It grabs your attention and there is nothing to distract the viewer from seeing the subject. There is nothing to date your image, other than, perhaps, clothing or hairstyle. In other words, your headshot is relevant for a long time.

In addition, white backgrounds work well for a variety of businesses. From corporate to casual, white can appeal of those two types of portraits. When imagery is so important to put your best business foot forward, you can’t go wrong with a strong, clean headshot.

Recently, I’ve noticed that most of my corporations request a white backgroiund so that their graphic artist can extract the image and place it on their own background as a composite. With so many digital backgrounds available, you can place yourself anywhere…from office setting to cozy home to exotic local. You can create a unique look specifically for your target audience.

Why would someone hire a professional photographer update their headshot if it is going to be edited anyways? I can tell you that posing, lighting, and retouching are skills that many of us enjoy helping you look your best. By sculpting you with light, posing to convey a message, and retouching using photoshop and lightroom, I can enhance or detract little details to project just the right business tone. I tell my clients that they will look RESTED, but not overly processed. No one wants to look like a plastic version of themself! 🙂

If it has been a couple of years since your last headshot, let’s discuss the image that you are wanting to portray and create something unique to promote your business. You will LOVE how you look at Whispering Sand Photography.

SHOULD I SHAVE BEFORE MY HEADSHOT SESSION IN THE STUDIO?

This is one of the most frequent questions that I am asked when helping someone prepare for their headshot session. If you are clean shaven, then YES. Here’s how we do it…and why.

Frequently, men may schedule a morning session to ensure that they still have a hairless face. For afternoon or evening sessions, men may shave here at the studio to ensure a clean, polished image.

It’s extremely difficult to remove stubble in Photoshop. Remember that the better you look in real life, the better your picture will look.

MY JOURNEY TO GROW AS A PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT ARTIST VIA PRINT COMPETITION AND EARNING PROFESSIONAL DEGREES

In my many years of having a professional portrait business, I have been an active member of Professional Photographers of America. Attending seminars and workshops has been one of the most rewarding ways that I have learned my craft. I have earned my Certified Professional Photographer Degree, as well as my Masters Degree in Photography. In order to earn these degrees, I had to create work that illustrated my competency. Here is one of my merited images that helped me earn my Masters Degree. I could never decide which version I preferred, so I will let YOU be the judge this time. 🙂

When I met this man, I knew that he would be a wonderful model to help me create this vision for “THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD.” At one time, there was a Dos Equis commercial that spoofed a refined gentleman that they named “THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD.” I wanted to do my own version of this for print competition that would be another step toward achieving my Masters Degree.

So I set up my studio. He brought the bourbon and cigar. And then a special thing happened…I clearly remember how special HE made ME feel. He praised my work and my efforts to make sure that everything was JUST RIGHT. Usually, I am the one to make the client feel special and relaxed. But he had a special way of projecting warmth toward others. This was an experience that I will always treasure.

I did enter this in national competition and it did earn a merit in International Photographic Competition on a national scope. I am forever grateful to this endearing man.

DELIVERING CUSTOM WALL ART

Just delivered these wonderful pieces to my client’s home. These are durable gallery wraps that we shot in my backyard this Summer. You may note the cellophane wrapping on them too…these will NEVER warp. 🙂 I am blessed to have this gorgeous dock and lots of greenery in my back yard.

I enjoy photographing family sessions in a variety of locations. From the beach to my private dock to your own home, we work together to plan the perfect setting for your session. Once we determine the place, we then start to coordinate clothing and accessories.

A portrait session is always planned with YOU in mind. Ultimately, your portraits will truly reflect your own personality.
